Arjan Van Den Berg is building some monster stacks right now, a little cheeky grin on his face suggesting he is really enjoying himself.
It helps that the poker gods are smiling hard on him right now – as evidenced by the way in which he dispatched Jerome Negro. Negro raised to 27,000 from middle position and Van Den Berg pulled the trigger on him from the big blind, picking up a big stack of 5k chips and re-raising enough to cover Negro for his remaining 150,000.
Negro shrugged and called, showing down 6d 6c.
“Nice hand,” said Van Den Berg with a wry smile as he flipped up the crushed 5s 6s.
Equity is a mutable property in poker though, and the flop of 3c 9s 7s was a godsend for Van Den Berg, who now had a double gutter straight draw, flush draw and even straight flush draw.
Negro shifted to the edge of his seat – his chances of elimination having just risen substantially.
The turn ended his hopes – the 4s arriving to give Van Den Berg a winning flush. Negro departs, Van Den Berg has now chipped up to 1.1 million.
