The second Universal Championship of Poker (UCOP) tournament series this year has just kicked off on MPN; UCOP Vegas. The series runs 14-28 April 2019 and guarantees €500,000 across 61 events, in addition to the leaderboard, which awards €20,000 worth of prizes.
We caught up with two time UCOP Champion Mateusz Moolhuizen to get his thoughts on the current series.
MPN: How are you feeling ahead of this UCOP series?
Mateusz: Looking ahead to the upcoming UCOP series I’m very motivated and excited. Winning it twice also gives me the experience I need to hopefully pull another rabbit out of the hat.
MPN: Is there anything in particular that grabs your attention in the schedule?
Mateusz: I’m glad there are a fair amount of bigger buy-in tournaments. Looking mostly forward to the last weekend with the Main Event and the High Roller in there. A monthly bigger guaranteed main event like this would be great!
MPN: Are you planning to play with the same strategy as previous UCOPs or are you making any changes?
Mateusz: I’m planning on using pretty much the same strategy as last time, but obviously I can’t control the variance. I have been working on my game strategy wise so hopefully that will be enough. In poker there’s just so much you can control.
MPN: The €20K leaderboard awards the winner an exclusive Las Vegas trip for 2 worth €7,500 and a €2,500 online tournament tickets package. We can see you have a few flags from Vegas on your Hendon Mob – what does an ideal trip to Vegas look like to you?
Mateusz: This leaderboard really got me excited because Vegas is still the ultimate poker trip for every poker player. I’ve been there a couple times and Vegas just simply offers so much entertainment outside of poker, which not many places in the world can offer. My ideal trip to Vegas looks like winning a tournament (favorable WSOP Main event) and then spending a lot there ;). I like to mix it up between poker, shooting ranges, racing on tracks with supercars, Cirque du Soleil shows and all the other crazy things Las Vegas has to offer. Going on a road trip to San Francisco/San Diego is always a great option when in Vegas.
MPN: Playing the UCOP tournament series means long hours at the virtual tables. What are your tricks that keep you focused and motivated? Does the magic chair you bought after you won the main €1,000,000 guaranteed UCOP tournament series last September help?!
Mateusz: It’s going to be tough grind, spending approximately 140 hours behind the computer for the upcoming two weeks, but to keep it fresh I’ll be doing lots of sports outside of the evening sessions. I wouldn’t be able to keep the mind focused without it.
I’ll also do some meditation, when I don’t forget it, which usually is 6 out of 7 times a week. The magic chair has helped my back a lot, and I’m treating it like my girlfriend, not sure if that’s a good thing.
Looking forward to the upcoming two weeks and then I can blow off some steam at MPNPT Prague!
