With Martin Mand largely on the sidelines, Suominen and Modens are battling to establish themselves as table captain. Suominen has pulled more than a few tricky moves and perhaps has the slight psychological upper hand but he met his match just before the break a few moments ago.
Modens raised from the small blind to 300,000 with Js 5c and Suominen called the additional 120,000 with Kd 6d.
The board fell a Modens-friendly Jh 5h 3c and Modens wasted no time slowplaying, leading out for 270,000. It proved a wise line as Suominen was in the mood for mischief, raising to 870,000. Modens went through a bit of hollywooding, Suominen giving him a bit of a needle.
“Do you want it? Come on fold, we’ll go for a cigarette.”
Modens eventually re-raised with his top two and Suominen cackled like a gremlin as he instantly folded and walked away from the table for his break.
Modens then retains the chip lead with over 6 million, Suominen on around 4.5 million and Mand is the shortstack with around 1.5 million…
