Ladies and gents, that is your Day 1a lot!
The insanely luxurious Mazagan resort here in Morocco today welcomed our first flight of contenders for the 5,500 + 500 MAD buy-in Main Event. A rebuy-happy field comprising 115 entries was reduced over the course of 12 levels to 33 players.
In the lead is recent WSOP Global Casino Championship winner Said El-Yousfi (pictured) on 272,000 – head and shoulders above the next biggest stack, Hans Christian Fjaervoll on 202,900. Other chip counts of note include last year’s runner up Soufiane Ouadoudy (150,100), Mateusz Moolhuizen (136,300), David Lappin (99,000) and Rauno Tahvonen (84,100).
Tomorrow’s Day 1b is likely to be considerably busier than today, what with the weekend approaching and the high likelihood of many of today’s casualties exercising their right to rebuy and take another shot at the 1,500,000 MAD guaranteed Main Event. As always, registration will remain open right up until the start of Day 2. Should the worst happen and a late rebuy to the Main Event not appeal, tomorrow’s schedule also includes the 1,000 + 100 MAD MPNPT Win The Button event at 7pm, and a 1,000 + 100 MAD R/A supersat to the High Roller event at 9pm.
The Main Event begins tomorrow at the earlier time of 1pm – until then, to the bar!
