We can’t be certain who the chip leader is at this point but Andy Hills will be in the reckoning courtesy of a huge pot – we haven’t had a chance to corroborate all the details but we understand Hills flopped a set of nines on a Q-9-x board – only to get the devastating news that his opponent had him crushed with pocket queens. Naturally the chips flowed into the middle with these two huge hands and Hills looked likely to see his Battle of Malta title ambitions scuppered.
Incredibly though, he found the last nine in the deck to improve to quads and take down a massive pot. We’ll get more information off Andy when we have a chance but the upshot of all this drama sees Hills rise to 1.3 million. Hills has put together a great run in live tournaments and is closing in on $1,000,000 in tournament cashes…a goal he has a shot at reaching if he can convert his monster stack into a deep finish.
[Edit: The one out hand was from yesterday, not today, it wasn’t quite as significant as we might have suggested.]
