I’m sad to confirm that Microgaming Poker Network will close next year.
For some time now, I’ve been carrying out an extensive review into the poker product here at Microgaming, with input from poker industry experts, independent consultants, and my colleagues around the world. The conclusion of the review was that, for poker to be as successful as possible, we had to adopt a very different strategy and business model. Ultimately, the poker network is not part of that vision.
All of us in the Microgaming poker team are committed to seeing this out with dignity. More than that – we want the poker community to have fond memories of the network we have invested so much of our time and energy in. So you can expect the network to continue operating as normal, with a full offering of tournaments, cash games, promotions and live events, until we close next year.
If you have money with one of the MPN poker rooms, you don’t need to be concerned and you can continue to play as usual. Every one of our poker rooms has told us they intend to find a new supplier for poker software, and we intend to help them make the migration as simple and smooth as possible, for players and their business in general.
I have answered the most obvious questions below, and will regularly update this FAQ as questions get asked and new information becomes available.
Q. When will the MPN close?
A. A specific date has not been agreed, and we are in ongoing discussions with our customers about this. However, based on the information available now, we expect the network to close in Q2 or Q3 2020.
Q. Should I withdraw my money?
A. That’s entirely your decision. As a condition of operating on the network, each of our poker rooms is required to, at minimum, segregate all player funds from its operating expenses. There is no reason to believe that any of our poker rooms is in financial difficulty and our plans to close the network have no impact on the safety of your funds.
We hope that you will choose to continue playing on the MPN until we close. We plan to provide a full service until the closure next year, including a variety of promotions.
Q. What will happen to the MPN Poker Tour?
A. The MPN Poker Tour will visit Malta in October, as planned. If you have won a seat to Malta, you should attend and play.
We have planned an event after this, and will confirm our plans before the Malta event begins.
Anyone who has won a package or seat to an MPN Poker Tour event will be contacted in due course, and will be dealt with completely fairly and transparently. All packages and seats will be honoured in full.
Q. What about UCOP?
A. The Universal Championship of Poker series will continue as advertised, and guarantees will remain the same. Expect overlays.
