Colum Topples on De Cesare (8th - € 27,100 )

Shaun De Cesare has just become the latest victim of the rampaging Colum Higgins – who adds another notch to his tally of destruction – three players dismissed over the opening few levels.

De Cesare’s exit was unavoidable – finding AcKs, he made an uncontroversial jam for his 6.8 million stack once Higgins opened from UTG+2 to 1ne million with QsQd. The Irishman naturally snap-called and, with his fans on the rail crying “HOLD!” enthusiastically, he obliged, winning the classic coin-flip over the 6d8c4s3sQc board.

Great performance from De Cesare, who was inspired to try and make the final table from watching previous years’ Battles of Malta and managed to do so – an impressive realisation of a very tough to achieve task. He leaves €27,100 richer for his 8th place finish. Meanwhile, Colum’s incredible start continues – he’s now closing in on 30 million, having started the day with less than ten big blinds, and is now a real contender for the title. Go Colum!
