Welcome back to the Grand Madrid Casino Colón as we prepare for the start of Day 1B.
Quick correction to last night’s report that Remco Schaafsma ended the evening as chip leader with 189,000. No, no, no. There was a little miscommunication at the close and it transpires Mikael Gronvik in fact bagged up over 260,000 – way in front of the rest of the field. Well done Mikael!
We’ll have a new slew of players pouring into the casino today, pausing momentarily, we imagine, to admire the giant frog that sits just outside. It’s very impressive!
Yesterday saw a bumper 145 players arrive and with two more day 1’s to come – today’s 1B and tomorrow’s early turbo Day 1C (starting at 11:00am) – the numbers and prizepool look likely to swell impressively in the next day and a half. This is MPNPT’s final event and it’s great to see it so well attended, many familiar faces from the years of the tour having made the effort to give the tour a cracking send off.
One of those familiar faces is Julie Whitworth, who was very excited about some eerie signs, explaining her first online moniker was frog-related and she’s been drawn at table 1 seat 1. Coincidence or mystical portents of success? Either way it’s good to see one of the tour’s most loyal regulars here in Madrid. Good luck Julie!
Today starts at the earlier time of 2:00pm by the way – so those of you who were still at the bar as the sun was rising – grab a strong black espresso and a croissant and get down here! It’s going to be a fun, action-packed day of poker so don’t miss out. We’ll be starting shortly, good luck one and all!
