Ananias Snatches Late MPNPT Sunny Beach Day 1b Chip Lead

Best of the bunch

Day 1b of MPNPT Sunny Beach, Bulgaria is finished and it is UK player Joseph Ananias who has snaffled the chip lead at the close, having amassed an impressive 200,300 chips. It was nip and tuck as the day closed, with Borislav Yosifov and Aleksander Georgiev snapping at Ananias’ heels with 191,000 and 181,000 respectively.

Day 1a proved a popular affair with 110 entrants and rebuys but we always knew the day 1b field would likely blow this number out of the water and so it proved as hordes of players descended on the Platinum Casino to begin their assault on the MPNPT Sunny Beach title. In total, they combined to create 201 entries and rebuys, as chips flew from stack to stack with admirable velocity.

The field was a healthy blend of keen amateurs, drawn from both local and distant sources and seasoned veterans, some of whom have built themselves impressive reputations on the MPNPT tour.

Mason battled hard

Previous MPNPT Tallinn Champion Keimo Suominen was one of those with such an illustrious history, though he couldn’t convert his years of experience into a challenging stack today, crashing out toward the end of the day. He took his misfortune with sang-froid as did poker journalist turned player Jennifer Mason, who eschewed her literary skills today to showcase her poker chops. On this occasion however glory escaped her clutches and she was unable to improve on her impressive hendonmob C.V. with a further deep run as her challenge faltered midway through the day.

After nine levels had been completed, we were left with just 78 players remaining from day 1b’s opening contingent. These 78 will combine tomorrow with the 41 players who made it through day 1a – the 119 players remaining headed by Swede Mikael Gronvik, who retains the overnight chip lead with his 217,200.

Full chip counts and table draws can be found below.

We’ll be back for Day 2 tomorrow at the later time of 2pm where we will continue to follow all the action as we home in on our latest MPNPT champion.

See you then poker fans. For now though, fare well and good night. Thanks for following!
